Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 16th September, 2015: Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (JGEC) students started their agitation in the demand of immediate recruitment of teachers in the vacant positions of the college. They locked the main entrance of the College today and started a Sit-in demonstration in front of the college gate. The students association’s Assistant Secretary Avik Mukherjee alleged that there are at least 7 vacant positions in the electronics & telecommunication department. For that reason, regular classes are not taking place. Students are facing the brunt of the situation. It is further known that because of routine transfer and other leaves like maternity leaves the Department is facing a huge teaching shortage. The students alleged that many a time the problem is raised but with no respite. The College principal Prof. Jyotirmoy Jhampati said that the demands of the students are logical and he has forwarded the problem to the higher authorities to take some decisions regarding the problem.
